Positive expectation holiday year 2017

23 January 2017

Last year Dutch tourists packed their suitcases more often than in 2015. Although with an growth of 1 percent, but it still represents 35,5 million travellers. For next year research agency NBTC-NIPO expects an increase of 2 percent more holidays.

It are domestic holidays (+3%) that contributed to the total growth. An explanation could be the surprisingly good summer weather in Holland, as well as the secure feeling in our own country.

Often pack our bags
Three-quarter of the Dutch people say that they will travel once or more times in the upcoming months. Even more so, 18 percent is planning to go more often than last year. Therefor the outlook for 2017 is positive and the amount of holidays is expected to increase with 2 percent. That’s good news!

Economy is on the rise
The economic forecast is positive too with an expected growth of 2,1 percent for the upcoming year. Also a further decrease of unemployment and a growth of purchasing power will definitely contribute to a further growth of the number of holidays.
